PleinScout helps artists find, save, share, and plan plein air painting locations and outings. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect
PleinScout may collect or store the following information when you use the app:
- Account information, including your email address, display name, password authentication state, account role, account tier, and account settings.
- Profile information you choose to add, including bio, location name, website, Instagram handle, profile image, public profile preferences, saved spot visibility preferences, and connection preferences.
- Painting spot content, including spot names, descriptions, notes, categories, latitude and longitude, address, region, city, county, access details, safety and accessibility notes, ratings, public/private visibility, shared-with email addresses, and creator name or email when you submit or share a spot.
- Photos or videos you choose to upload or attach, including profile photos, spot photos, outing photos, and painting journal images.
- Painting journal and outing content, including notes, medium used, dates, RSVP or outing details, invitee identifiers, and related spot information.
- Moderation and safety information, including reports you submit, blocked email addresses, reported user email addresses, report reasons, and administrative review status.
- App preferences and local state, including onboarding status and other settings stored on your device.
- Current location, if you grant location permission, so the app can center the map near you and show nearby painting spots.
Information from Apple system features
PleinScout uses Apple system pickers and editors for some features:
- Photos: You choose which images to add through the system photo picker. PleinScout only receives the items you select.
- Calendar: When you add an outing to your calendar, Apple presents a calendar editor. PleinScout prepares the event details, and you decide whether to save the event.
- Contacts: The system calendar editor may allow you to add invitees from Contacts. PleinScout does not use Contacts for advertising or tracking.
- Location: iOS controls location permission. You can allow or deny access in Settings.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Sync your profile, public community spots, ratings, painting journal entries, photos, moderation reports, and related app data.
- Show painting spots, maps, saved spots, outings, and nearby recommendations.
- Let you upload profile images, spot photos, and artwork or journal images.
- Support public community features, including public spot submissions and creator attribution.
- Provide safety tools, including reporting content and blocking creators.
- Support account security, password recovery, and account deletion.
- Maintain app functionality, diagnose errors, and protect the service from abuse.
Public content
If you submit a spot or other content as public, that content may be visible to other PleinScout users. Public content can include the spot title, description, location coordinates, address or area details, notes, uploaded images, creator display name, creator email if included by the app feature, ratings, and related metadata.
Do not submit private, sensitive, or unsafe location details as public content unless you are comfortable sharing them with other users.
Third-party service providers
PleinScout uses Supabase to provide authentication, database, file storage, and account-related backend services. Information synced to the service may be processed and stored by Supabase on our behalf.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising tracking.
Tracking and advertising
PleinScout does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising or data broker purposes. PleinScout does not use the data described in this policy for third-party advertising.
Data retention
We retain account and synced app data while your account is active or as needed to provide the app. Some content may remain on your device until you delete it locally or remove the app.
When you delete your account in the app, PleinScout requests permanent deletion of your PleinScout account and server data associated with that account. Some limited records may be retained if necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, backups, or records that have already been made public or shared by you and cannot reasonably be removed from all copies immediately.
Your choices
You can:
- Update profile and visibility settings in the app.
- Choose whether to grant location permission in iOS Settings.
- Choose which photos to add through the system photo picker.
- Choose whether to save calendar events through the system calendar editor.
- Mark content private or public where the app offers that option.
- Report objectionable content.
- Block creators so their public spots are hidden from your view.
- Delete your account from the app.
Children
PleinScout is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including platform authentication, iOS permission controls, and backend access controls. No online service can guarantee complete security.
International users
Your information may be processed in locations where our service providers operate. By using PleinScout, you understand that information may be transferred and processed outside your region.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. The effective date will be updated when we make material changes.
